  • That is really sad. What could have drove her to shoot herself?

  • Beyond words indeed. She had a 2-year old son too. :(

  • Wow, I can’t believe she took her own life.  I remember reading parts of the book in high school and thinking how great it was that she had done research on that topic.

  • Some random thoughts…  I first heard about Iris Chang in grad school, and at that time she struck me as one of those Asian Americans who had it made.  You know, the ones your parents would compare you to.  Sure, she was young and beautiful and famous (and probably rich from book sales, who knows?).  But she was also following her passion in life, which very few of us can say.  Nowadays I think of her as an Asian Samantha Powers.

And by now she had a husband and 2-yr-old son.  What more could you want out of life?

Depression is a hard thing to understand.  How much of it is chemical, biological, or spiritual?  I think the worst part about it is that when you’re in it, you don’t tend to seek help or answers, you just sink downwards…  I think most people know what I’m talking about.  Fortunately for most of us, we bounce back up before reaching the point of suicide.

    Sad.

  • yes, yes.  sadness beyond words.  especially knowing that it is possible to get help and recover and be restored completely, and even better than before.  this, i know personally.  it was not easy.  by no means.  it was horrific.  but in the end, glorious and beautiful and amazing how God worked things all out for good.

but how very very sad, this.

  • even when you are getting help for depression, sometimes, it’s hard to shake off whatever it is that is haunting you.
