Bono Preaches
I
presume the reason for this gathering is that all of us
here – Muslims, Jews, Christians – all are searching our
souls for how to better serve our family, our community, our
nation, our God.I know
I am. Searching, I mean. And that, I suppose, is what led me
here,

Nice. I was thinking about posting the whole thing, but it was too long. I saw clips of the speech this morning on the news, and it came across (unintentionally, I’m sure) as a bit self-serving and shlocky – but when I read the whole speech in its entirety, I found it to be quite moving.
Though I have some issues w/ some aspects of Bono’s Christianity (i.e., his ecclesiology is non-existent – he doesn’t see the need to attend church), on the whole, he’s a real hero of mine.
It seems to simple to unite all nations. But, it should!
To be a people who long for justice and commit to action in spite of all the complexities…
Wow!! This is the first time I read anything written or said by Bono. I loved the fact that he gave credit where credit is due but, at the same time, didn’t flinch to say that charity isn’t enough, God’s laws demand justice. And ended with a specific challenge to the government to “tithe”. Whether one agrees or not to the specifics, pretty powerful stuff. Thanks for posting the link!
Thanks; that was worth reading. It’s easy to be overly preoccupied with the problems in one’s own life and neglect greater problems in the world.
